Project description

Composing a multi-functional space within the smallest of footprints isn’t a new concept to Mandy Graham. The designer’s goal was to achieve a cohesive balance of functionality between living, dining and cooking without compromising the importance of negative space. Graham references the Japanese philosophical concept of Ma which refers to an artistic interpretation of an empty space, often holding as much importance as the general points of interest.

The thoughtfully curated interior spaces embrace warmth and sophistication with a balance of antique and modern furnishings including the B&B Italia sofa, custom travertine cocktail tables, 18th Century English mahogany dining table, and Poul Kjaerholm’s wicker lounge and dining chairs.

Smoked glass cabinetry from Porro reflects the sweeping ocean views and is an example of unmitigated elegance. The custom 14’ solid walnut kitchen island, from the designer’s latest collection release, was fitted with functional pull-out storage on all sides. Graham prescribes the same details and craftsmanship as depicted throughout the designer’s furniture collections. The stone worksurface is in-set by the hinged walnut door panels at each end and integrates with the integrated prep and sink areas. Steel paneled refrigeration and ovens are recessed within the plaster walls.

Once a dark and foreboding 30-foot path of travel, the entry hall is an indication of the designer’s ability to bring together architectural refinement with materiality in the most challenging of spaces by utilizing arches, striking tile design and ambient lighting. Graham once again embraces the concept of negative space as a positive entity when arriving at the breathtaking spiral staircase.
